about me - A little introduction...


 

Hello, my name is Donna and I am the owner of Yorkshire Born and Dread.

 

I am based in the lovely village of Birstall in West Yorkshire and work from my independent studio in the lower ground floor of my family home.

The photo on the right was taken on my wedding day. We had a magical handfasting ceremony at a fabulous farm in Ilton, North Yorkshire very close to the Druid's Temple.

 

During the planning of the big day. I was asked if I would be ''combing out my dreadlocks for the big day?'' and I was surprised at the question. It wasn't that they didn't know me well, they did, they had known me all my life and I thought they understood that my dreadlocks were a part of me and not some sort of rebellion that could be discarded to fit other peoples ideas of how a bride should look on her wedding day.

It is attitudes like this that I strive to change through shared positive experiences and supportive empowerment. Often those who present in a negative way are projecting their own insecurities, worries and lack of self worth and it is my passion to positively challenge these ideas and support others to overcome any self limiting beliefs.  

​

For some, starting your  own dreadlock journey can unlock hidden potential and unleash a whole new way of living which allows you to embrace yourr true authentic self. This can be challenging but if I can help, then I will and it will be my honour,
